This man is phenomenal. He's got such great tone and range to his singing, and his compositions range from jazz-influenced jams to mellow rockers to intense power ballads. His lyrics circulate much like John Mayer's - relationships, government, self-examination, the whole nine yards!
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendID=24970439You can listen to the lead single off the new (self-titled) album, "In Love With a Girl", on his Myspace page. I'd strongly recommend checking out the rest of it, though, because quite honestly it does not do him justice as an artist.
Specific song choices: "Cop Stop", "Relative", "Chariot", and "Medicate the Kids".

I love Gavin. I was OBSESSED with Chariot when it was a radio hit. I play his songs on the piano a lot too...but I haven't gotten around to his new stuff yet.

^ Definitely, and it's supposed to be some sort of reunion show with his brother Joey, from what I heard? That'll make for some nice on-stage chemistry.
I think after many many listens, I like Chariot more than the self-titled.

^Mmm. Chariot is a great album. It's the only one I have of his though.
Do you have the "Chariot: Stripped" acoustic CD? I absolutely LOVE some of those acoustic versions.
jake.
Aug 3 2008, 02:33 AM
Yep, I liked it alot too! I'm not sure how it compared to the full version...I don't really want to make that decision actually. Love them both too much

You should really check out the new album. It's really good, he refined his sound alot. I still wouldn't put it over Chariot, but it's obviously worth hearing!

^That's a great song.
I was obsessed with "Chariot" for the longest time. I can play it on piano and guitar

More Than Anyone might be my favorite of his now. It's so beautiful. His voice is heart-wrenching in that song.

I am so in love with Gavin DeGraw and his amazing music. I've been a fan since before he released his first cd b/c I saw him open a show for a band I was into in college. He's pretty down to earth too.
I'm so glad he finally decided to put Cop Stop on an album. He's been playing it live for like 6 years, so it's nice to hear a recorded version. I lovvvve Untamed and She Holds The Key. I hope he comes around my way on his tour!

Agreed, he seems like a pretty decent guy. That's what you get when you aren't corrupted by the need to write a radio hit

I'm still not so sure about his lyrics on the self titled album. Some of them seem more mature, but the rest don't. It's like he didn't focus as hard on that.

Wow, it's been a long time since I've seen this thread.
Gavin has a new album,
Free, coming out. Two singles have been released as of now, "Stay" and "Dancing Shoes". The latter is by far my favorite.

STOKED.

I'm going to see him in May in Charlotte. to say that I am excited would be the understatement of the year. I havent seen Gavin live in 6 years. AND this is a full band/acoustic show, so the venue said he would be playing for about 2 hours. THEN at the end of May, he is coming to Charlotte for Speed Street in conjunction with the CocaCola 600. I will be there early for that
I couldnt believe when I heard that he was releasing another album so soon! It's like he had so much material b/c he was away so long so he had to come out with back to back albums. Which is just fine with me!
jake.

^ Yeah, I was pretty shocked myself

(especially because it slipped under my radar

)
I watched a really brief interview with Gavin on Regis and Kelly, and apparently alot of this material is coming from the very start of his music career, just being fine-tuned and perfected. He said he felt like he was straying from his roots, so this return should be great for the people who preferred
Chariot over the self-titled.
